On Tuesday, Congress MLAs staged a protest at the Legislative Assembly in Odisha, targeting the BJP-led government over the alleged increasing incidents of crimes against women. Speaking to ANI, MLA Sofia Firdous expressed concern for the third consecutive day, underscoring fears parents face about their daughters' safety as they attend schools and colleges.
During the protest, Firdous declared, "Today marks our third day of demonstrating both inside and outside the House. We aim to shed light on the surge in crime against women across the state. The government attempts to divert attention, but we stand resilient." Earlier, MP Saptagiri Ulaka emphasized the severity of women's safety in Odisha by filing an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha.
Ulaka presented shocking statistics, revealing 54 gang rape cases and 1,600 incidents of atrocities against women in Odisha over the past eight months. Historical data shows 36,420 women and 8,403 children reported missing, with 421 cases of trafficking. The Congress voices necessitate government assurance for women's safety. Amid this turmoil, BJD members also protested within the assembly, demanding clarification on BJP MLA Jayanarayan Mishra's controversial statement regarding regional mergers with Odisha.
