On Thursday, Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal criticized the arrest of two journalists in Telangana, attributing it to a pervasive 'disease' known as intolerance. Through a social media post, Sibal questioned the reasons behind the arrests, implying they were symptomatic of a larger issue plaguing society.
Adding to the criticism, Bharat Rashtra Samithi's Working President K T Rama Rao took a swipe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over the journalist arrests. In his post, KTR sarcastically asked if this was Gandhi's version of 'Love Shop,' referring to the arrests as an attack on freedom of speech upheld by the Indian Constitution.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla accused the Congress government in Telangana of exhibiting an 'emergency mindset' after a senior journalist was detained for highlighting farmers' struggles. Poonawalla indicated that such acts of muzzling the press are frequent, drawing attention away from the real issues of farmer distress.
