Polish Government Reshuffle: Tusk's Strategic Moves Amid Political Turmoil
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced a cabinet reshuffle to regain support amid falling approval ratings and potential clashes with President Karol Nawrocki. Key changes include promoting Foreign Minister Sikorski and creating a superministry for finance. The move aims to strengthen government unity and address public discontent.
In a decisive move to regain political momentum, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk unveiled a significant cabinet reshuffle on Wednesday, a response to declining approval ratings and challenges from the newly elected nationalist President Karol Nawrocki.
Among key changes, Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski was elevated to deputy prime minister while retaining his current role, a strategy Tusk believes will fortify Poland's international standing. A new superministry combining finance and economic oversight has been established, led by Finance Minister Andrzej Domanski, to consolidate economic governance.
Critics, notably from the opposition Law and Justice party, have derided the reshuffle, questioning its effectiveness. Nonetheless, Nawrocki, set to be inaugurated as president on August 6, expressed openness to policies beneficial to Poles despite his scrutiny of the coalition's liberal agenda.
