Mamata Banerjee's 'Bhasha Andolan': A New Language Movement Against NRC in Bengal

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has launched the 'Bhasha Andolan' against the BJP, accusing them and the Election Commission of attempting to implement NRC covertly, targeting Bengali speakers and disenfranchising the poor. In a powerful political move, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee initiated the 'Bhasha Andolan' on Monday. This 'language movement' is a direct challenge to the BJP and the Election Commission, whom Banerjee accuses of clandestine attempts to impose NRC and create 'linguistic terror' against Bengali-speaking migrants.

Speaking from the cultural hub of Bolpur, Banerjee pledged not to compromise on Bengali pride, or 'asmita,' and condemned actions she claims are designed to disenfranchise minorities and the economically disadvantaged. She asserted that genuine voter names are being targeted for removal, in a secretive NRC-like operation.

Asserting the importance of cultural unity and identity, Banerjee warned of resistance if these tactics continue, supported by a solidarity rally with TMC supporters. Her message was clear: Bengali culture and existence will be defended fiercely, but non-violently.
