The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has sharply criticized former Chief Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi over his recent remarks regarding political developments in Nepal. According to the BJP, Quraishi's comments were recklessly supportive of Nepal's democratic processes and linked him to an agreement involving George Soros's Open Society Foundation.
During an interview, Quraishi highlighted Nepal as a vibrant democracy, advising social media regulation and urging India to support struggling democracies in the SAARC region as an 'elder brother'. BJP IT department head Amit Malviya strongly condemned Quraishi's remarks, attributing them to his prior associations with controversial organizations during his tenure.
Malviya accused Quraishi of failing to correct electoral roll discrepancies during his time as Election Commissioner and CEC. He cited past instances, including voter fraud allegations, and questioned the inaction on addressing 'bogus voters'. The BJP argues that former officials, including Quraishi, owe accountability for their past roles and decisions.
