External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday slammed the UN Security Council's inaction in addressing terrorism, criticizing Pakistan for shielding terrorist groups responsible for attacks in India. Speaking at an event marking the UN's 80th anniversary, he called for urgent reforms within the global body.
Jaishankar criticized the hypocrisy in equating victims and perpetrators of terrorism under the guise of a global strategy, alluding to Pakistan's attempts to remove references to the Resistance Front, a proxy of Lashkar-e-Taiba, from a UN press statement. He also pointed out China's role in blocking initiatives at the Security Council.
Highlighting the urgent need for reforms, Jaishankar said the UN's debate has become polarized and its work gridlocked. Despite challenges, he reiterated India's steadfast support for multilateralism and peace, advocating for continued UN support amid global challenges.
