Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla Resigns Amid Recruitment Allegations
Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, daughter of former South African president Jacob Zuma, resigns from parliament following accusations of recruiting men to fight for Russia in Ukraine. The resignation, not seen as an admission of guilt, follows South Africa's investigation into the claims alongside her party's support for the affected families.
Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, daughter of former South African President Jacob Zuma, has resigned from her parliamentary position amid allegations of recruiting 17 men to fight in Ukraine for Russia. The accusations have stirred controversy, prompting her unexpected exit from the Umkhonto weSizwe (MK) opposition party.
Officials of the MK party stated that Zuma-Sambudla stepped down voluntarily, clarifying that her resignation is not an admission of guilt. The party, led by her father, aims to support the families of the South Africans involved. Despite her presence at a press briefing, Zuma-Sambudla refrained from public comments on the matter.
The South African government is actively investigating the recruitment incident, as 17 of its citizens remain in Ukraine's Donbas region under allegedly deceitful contracts. Meanwhile, authorities are probing Zuma-Sambudla and two others after requests from her half-sister, amidst a broader concern about African nationals reported fighting in Ukraine.
