YSRCP supremo YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday alleged that only 19 lakh farmers were given crop insurance in Andhra Pradesh, which faced 17 natural calamities during the present NDA coalition government.

Addressing a press conference at YSRCP central office in Tadepalli, Jagan alleged that the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu-led coalition government ignored farmers' welfare and failed to provide timely assistance during disasters.

''In the 19 months of NDA coalition rule, Andhra Pradesh faced 17 natural calamities. Only 19 lakh farmers out of 84 lakh received crop insurance. The state government failed to support those in urgent need,'' he said.

The input subsidies to peasants were delayed while tenant farmers were left in a pitiable condition, he added.

The YSRCP supremo said farming, which should be celebrated like a festival, allegedly turned into a burden during Naidu's regime.

He said that under the previous YSRCP government between 2019 and 2024, 62 per cent of people depended on agriculture.

Jagan alleged that despite prior information about cyclones and harvest-ready crops, the Naidu-led coalition government could not prevent losses.

''Bananas are selling at Rs 0.5 per kg. Paddy, coconut, cotton and every crop is affected. Governance is being run in a disastrous manner,'' Jagan said.

The former CM further alleged that the Naidu-led coalition government has also failed in key sectors such as health, education and others while misusing police machinery to target political opponents.

He claimed that the NDA coalition government is indulging in nepotism and running the administration in a manner that has ''pushed all sections of people into distress''.

Highlighting the YSRCP's ongoing campaign against the alleged privatisation of medical colleges, he said one crore signatures have been collected opposing the state government's decision to place public health in private hands. These signatures, he added, will be submitted to Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer on December 16.

Jagan alleged that the ruling government handed a ''bonanza'' to private medical colleges by directing payment of staff salaries, while Aarogyasri (which offers free healthcare to the poor in corporate hospitals) dues remain pending and the scheme has been weakened.

The former CM further alleged that while spurious liquor units, illegal liquor shops and distribution networks are run by TDP-linked groups, the YSRCP leaders are being wrongly booked in what he called an ''irrational and politically motivated liquor scam''.

According to Jagan, Naidu himself is involved in liquor-related irregularities and is on bail in other serious cases, but continues to violate bail conditions.

On the Tirupati laddu issue, the former CM said there is a strong mechanism to ensure ghee quality, but Naidu spread false allegations without evidence.

Referring to the Tirupati temple's Parakarmani (cash offering counting centre) theft case, he said the counting system was modernised during the previous YSRCP government with high-tech cameras, and it was this tight vigilance that exposed the theft.

Speaking about the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP), he accused the TDP supremo of ''double standards,'' saying the government is failing to address the core issue of allocating a captive mine and is instead blaming staff. He underlined that the previous YSRCP government had opposed privatisation by passing a resolution in the Assembly.
