Tensions rose on Sunday as Japan and Australia urged calm following a radar lock incident involving the Chinese military and Japanese fighter jets, intensifying after recent remarks by Japan's leader on Taiwan.
Japan's Defence Minister, Shinjiro Koizumi, condemned the incident, labeling it "extremely regrettable" and "dangerous." Koizumi revealed that Japan had lodged a formal protest, demanding strict preventive action from China.
China defended its flight maneuvers near Miyako Island, accusing Japan of harassment. Meanwhile, Japan and Australia's defense ministers pledged to strengthen military ties, aiming for regional stability amidst the diplomatic strains.
