In a bid to galvanize voter turnout, Kerala BJP President Rajeev Chandrasekhar appealed to constituents to actively participate in the upcoming local body elections, promising to rectify years of alleged misgovernance and stagnation. At a press briefing, he characterized the electoral process as a foundational element of democratic expression, urging citizens to consider their priorities and make their voices heard through the ballot.
Chandrasekhar emphasized that the local elections offer an opportunity to address persistent infrastructure issues, including roads, water supply, waste management, and sanitation. He criticized the ruling LDF and UDF for repeated opportunities to govern without substantial progress, advocating for change through a BJP-led administration. Meanwhile, several political figures, including Union Ministers and opposition leaders, participated in the voting process.
The local body elections in Kerala witnessed extensive preparatory efforts, with the State Election Commission overseeing the deployment of electronic voting machines and the establishment of special voting facilities across 1,199 local bodies. The first phase of voting commenced in seven districts with additional arrangements for exclusive booths managed by female and young staff, alongside facilities for disabled voters. The multi-phase electoral process will conclude with vote counting on December 13.
