In a heated session of Parliament on Tuesday, Congress MP Sukhdeo Bhagat accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of displaying a 'frustration and narrow-minded approach' during the 'Vande Mataram' debate. Bhagat praised Priyanka Gandhi for her factual presentation, emphasizing the significance of the national song within the context of India's diversity and Constitution.
Bhagat highlighted the Congress's decision to focus on two stanzas of the song, noting its historical and constitutional relevance. He contended that Modi's frustration may stem from the BJP's lack of association with the freedom movement, questioning if the Prime Minister was inadvertently undermining figures like Rajendra Prasad and Shyama Prasad Mukherjee.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju dismissed opposition claims that the debate was timed for electoral advantage in West Bengal. Rijiju clarified that the discussion coincided with the 150-year anniversary of 'Vande Mataram', asserting that the government does not dictate historical timelines but celebrates them accordingly.
