Congress leader K Muraleedharan, on Wednesday, emphasized that no party member should accept awards named after Veer Savarkar, including MP Shashi Tharoor, due to Savarkar's controversial past with the British authorities.
Muraleedharan expressed confidence that Tharoor would not accept the award, as it would be an affront to Congress values. Tharoor clarified that he only heard about the award recently and decided not to attend the ceremony.
The controversy surrounds the Veer Savarkar International Impact Award 2025, which HRDS India is set to present to Tharoor. However, prior to this event, Tharoor admitted he was unaware of the award or the organization behind it.
