The Congress has accused the BJP-RSS of nurturing animosity towards historic figures Mahatma Gandhi, B R Ambedkar, and Jawaharlal Nehru, asserting this as a core aspect of their ideology. On Wednesday, the Congress pointed to Amit Shah's controversial 2022 remark about Ambedkar in the Rajya Sabha.
A video surfaced displaying Shah commenting on the frequent mentions of Ambedkar, stating it had become "a fashion." The Congress claims this reflects a deeper disdain within the BJP-RSS ideology against pivotal figures of India's freedom movement. The opposition suggested the ruling party aims to diminish their legacies.
Jairam Ramesh from Congress alleged that recent actions, such as removing Gandhi's name from MGNREGA, are part of a broader agenda to undercut democratic traditions. He emphasized that despite these efforts, India's identity is inseparable from the contributions of Gandhi, Nehru, and Ambedkar, highlighting their enduring influence on the nation's democratic fabric.
