Ahead of Maharashtra's municipal elections held on January 15, 65 candidates from ten corporations were declared elected unopposed, according to the State Election Commission (SEC) on Friday.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the leading party with 43 uncontested victories, followed by Shiv Sena with 18. The Nationalist Congress Party, an Independent, and a candidate from the Indian Secular Largest Assembly also had uncontested wins.
Kalyan-Dombivali in Thane district saw the highest number of unopposed candidates (20), predominantly from the BJP and Shiv Sena. Discussions continue as reports were sought regarding uncontested wins of the ruling coalition.
