Opposition leaders voiced strong concerns on Monday about the freshly formed alliance between the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and suspended Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir. They suggest this coalition could fragment votes and undermine 'secular parties' ahead of the critical West Bengal Assembly elections.
AIMIM, led by Asaduddin Owaisi, has partnered with Kabir's Aam Janata Unnayan Party in preparation for the high-stakes assembly poll. Scheduled for April 23 and 29, the electoral outcome will be revealed on May 4. TMC MP Saugata Roy described the alliance as a 'bad development,' potentially isolating Muslim communities.
Roy claimed AIMIM's alliance ultimately assists the BJP, lacking significant electoral impact. Congress leaders expressed similar sentiments, emphasizing defeating communal forces as a priority. Additional critiques from opposition MPs portray AIMIM as the BJP's 'B-team,' which allegedly stirs vote division to benefit the ruling party strategically.
