Vijay Wadettiwar, a prominent leader from the Maharashtra Congress, accused the BJP government of diverting attention from its governance failures by instigating religious divisions. He pointed out that citizens are struggling with high inflation, unemployment, and escalating fuel prices.
Speaking about the communal tensions over Bakri Eid prayers at Durgadi Fort in Kalyan, near Mumbai, Wadettiwar stated, "This atmosphere of polarization has turned into their business." He criticized ministers for allegedly inciting religious discord, thereby violating their constitutional duties.
Highlighting economic issues, Wadettiwar warned that fuel prices could skyrocket to Rs 150 and Rs 170 for diesel and petrol, respectively, in the coming weeks. He suggested that the government's focus on sensational events is a tactic to distract from essential concerns like fuel shortages.
The Congress leader further claimed that the BJP is intentionally creating Hindu-Muslim tensions to sidetrack public attention from critical issues such as fuel price hikes and farmer distress. Wadettiwar cautioned that the situation could soon mirror the conditions of a lockdown.
