Alaska Election Scandal: Two Dan Sullivans Compete in Senate Race

An investigation has been launched by Alaska's top elections official into a U.S. Senate candidate, Daniel James Sullivan Jr., who shares the same name as Republican incumbent Senator Dan Sullivan. Allegations suggest the challenger filed candidacy to intentionally mislead voters.

The inquiry, initiated by Alaska Lieutenant Governor Nancy Dahlstrom, a Republican, will determine if Sullivan Jr., who uses "Dan Sullivan" on his campaign website, will be allowed on the August 18 primary ballot. Allegations claim he coordinated with another campaign to exploit the name similarity and party affiliation.

In a letter, Dahlstrom stated it is alleged Sullivan Jr. aimed to confuse voters into mistakenly voting for him instead of reelecting the sitting senator. The unelected Sullivan, a former Forest Service worker, filed his candidacy on May 29 under the slogan "Dan Sullivan Challenges Dan Sullivan for U.S. Senate Seat."
