Amidst relentless downpours, Army personnel were dispatched to flood-hit residential areas in Pune, following substantial water release from Khadakwasla dam, as confirmed by officials on Sunday.

With significant water discharge from Khadakwasla, Mulshi, Pavana, and other dams, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde instructed authorities to stay alert, relocating people from high-risk zones to safer locations, using NDRF, SDRF, and Army assistance if necessary.

''The India Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rainfall alert for Pune city and district. In response, full administrative vigilance is necessary,'' Shinde stated.

The Chief Minister's Office highlighted the necessity of relocating residents near rivers and dams to safer areas and providing them shelter, food, and medical care.

Pune municipal and district authorities received explicit instructions to ensure safety measures in low-lying localities like Ekta Nagar, Dattwadi, Yerwada, and others.

Following coordinated actions among officials, the release of 35,000 cusecs of water from Khadakwasla dam led to the deployment of an Army column in Ekta Nagar to facilitate evacuation of affected residents and provide essential facilities.
