Debate Over Developer Selection in Mumbai's Redevelopment Projects

Amidst Mumbai's bustling redevelopment activities, a contentious issue has arisen regarding the selection of developers by society members. Recently, the Mumbai Grahak Panchayat expressed concerns about this process, urging that the Deputy Registrar should have no involvement to prevent corruption.

In the case of Borivali's Madhumilan Society, built 58 years ago and now in dire need of redevelopment, a conflict emerged when two potential developers, Sugee Group and Ratan Singh Konark Builder JV, were considered. Despite Sugee's favorable offer, a faction of members supported the latter, resulting in a tie vote among 195 participants.

With allegations of conspiracy and attempts to sway the voting process, society members, alongside senior citizen Chandrakant Gohil, are calling for a re-vote. They demand a fair process, free from external influence, to ensure the best developer is chosen for their society's future.
