Delhi Set for Inaugural Cloud Seeding to Combat Air Pollution

The Delhi government is on the brink of conducting its first cloud seeding trial as part of a strategy to tackle air pollution. Slated for Tuesday, the trial is contingent upon favorable weather conditions, according to officials.

The initiative, led in collaboration with IIT Kanpur, seeks to induce artificial rain through the dispersal of silver iodide and sodium chloride compounds. This move is aimed at improving air quality in the congested capital city, particularly during the adverse winter months.

Despite completed preparations, including a recent test flight, the operation confronts challenges due to low atmospheric moisture. However, the administration remains optimistic about carrying out the long-delayed trials by November 30, pending regulatory clearances from key governmental bodies.
