Delhi's Crackdown: Traffic Police Enforce Record Pollution Penalties

The Delhi Traffic Police levied fines exceeding Rs 84.98 crore for violations related to Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates during the implementation of GRAP stages one and two, spanning October 14 to November 18, officials reported. A total of 84,981 challans were distributed, each carrying a Rs 10,000 penalty.
The Western Range issued the highest number of PUC challans, totaling 22,867, followed by the Southern Range with 20,554, and the New Delhi Range with 13,423. Combined, the Eastern, Northern, and Central Ranges accounted for the remaining violations. Additional measures included 2,030 challans for visibly polluting vehicles, primarily heavy carriers in southern and western regions.
Efforts to curb pollution extended to diverting 4,708 non-destined trucks via expressways and decongesting 703 key locations. Under GRAP regulations, 5,910 inter-state buses underwent checks, with 442 failing to meet GRAP conditions. The police remain vigilant in enforcing GRAP measures to mitigate pollution through winter.
