Heavy rainfall due to the remnants of Cyclone Ditwah has continued to impact several parts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, Thiruvallur, and Kancheepuram. The system, which weakened from a cyclonic storm to a deep depression, is expected to stagnate but could still trigger further showers, according to the IMD.
The persistent downpour has caused widespread disruptions, including the cancellation of ten flights and extensive waterlogging. Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister M K Stalin convened a meeting with district collectors to assess the situation and address the impact on agriculture. Emergency response teams have been kept on standby as a precautionary measure.
In response to the severe weather, the Greater Chennai Corporation has prepared rescue resources, such as boats and motor pumps, to manage rainwater. Meanwhile, the local civic body has arranged provisions for affected citizens, distributing essentials like food and milk powder. The city's average rainfall today was reported at 68.26 mm, with some areas experiencing significantly higher levels.
