India's ambitious rooftop solar initiative, the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, has reported significant progress, with 23.96 lakh households adopting solar systems. This figure accounts for 23.96% of the one crore target set to be achieved by financial year 2026-27, as revealed to Parliament on Tuesday by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy.

Minister of State Shripad Yesso Naik noted over 53 lakh applications have been submitted via the National Portal, with installations in nearly 24 lakh households, reflecting a robust response to the scheme. The program seeks to install solar panels without state-specific allocations, backed by a substantial Rs 75,021 crore outlay.

The scheme mandates quality checks and maintenance of solar installations, ensuring the sustainability of the initiative. Financial assistance varies, with individual households receiving Rs 30,000 per kWp for the first 2 kWp and Rs 18,000 for additional capacity. Additional incentives are offered to special category states and territories.
