In a bid to stabilize global oil markets, OPEC+ announced on Sunday its decision to hike oil output targets for the fourth month in a row, despite facing multiple challenges, including the geopolitical tension between the U.S. and Iran.

The conflict has significantly impacted oil transportation via the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint, exacerbating a global supply crisis. Several OPEC+ members, notably Saudi Arabia, have struggled to meet their production targets since February. The supply crisis was further complicated by the departure of the United Arab Emirates from OPEC, ending almost six decades of membership.

Despite production challenges, the coalition decided to continue its phased increase of output quotas, with a 188,000 bpd rise scheduled for July. This move follows earlier unilateral efforts to alleviate a massive production shortfall owing to regional export cuts. Meanwhile, the market remains closely tied to geopolitical developments that could sway the current volatile oil prices.
