Uganda's Coffee Export Earnings Dip Amid Global Price Decline
Uganda's coffee export earnings fell by about 10% in April due to declining global coffee prices. Coffee is a significant source of foreign exchange for Uganda, the continent's largest coffee exporter. Despite the drop, Uganda's annual coffee revenue rose by 24%, reaching $2.4 billion.
Uganda witnessed a notable decline in its coffee export earnings in April, marking a decrease of approximately 10% from the previous year. This downturn coincides with falling global coffee prices, as stated by the country's agriculture ministry on Monday.
In April, the East African nation, which stands as Africa's leading coffee exporter, recorded shipments valued at $155.5 million, a reduction from the $173.4 million reported in the same month last year, according to a ministry report. 'Coffee prices during the month declined in line with the decrease at the global level,' the report noted.
Despite the monthly downturn, Uganda's coffee earnings over a 12-month period soared by 24% to reach $2.4 billion, as per ministry data, underscoring robust annual growth amidst fluctuating market conditions.
