Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday congratulated Asian Games medal winners and described the gold-clinching run of Parul Chaudhary in the 5000m event as ''awe-inspiring''.
''Proud of Parul Chaudhary for winning the Gold Medal in Women's 5000m event. Hers was a performance that was truly awe inspiring. May she keep soaring high and sprinting towards success,'' he said in a post on X.
Lauding Annu Rani, who also won the gold in the women's javelin event, Modi said her outstanding performance has made India proud. ''May she keep aiming high and inspiring us all!'' Delhi boy Tejaswin Shankar also made India proud, establishing himself as the country's unrivalled decathlete by clinching a silver in the gruelling 10-event discipline with a national record total of 7,666 points.
''Such commitment and determination is indeed admirable, which will motivate younger athletes to also give their best with sincerity,'' the prime minister said.
Complementing Mohammed Afsal Pulikkalakath for winning the silver medal in the 800m event, Modi said his hard work and resilience have paid off. India is rejoicing and celebrating this success, he added.
In another post, he said, ''Congrats to Vithya Ramraj for winning the Bronze medal in Women's 400m Hurdles event. Her tenacity and determination has led to this truly promising performance.'' Praising boxer Preeti Pawar for winning the bronze medal in 54 kg category, he said he was proud of her fantastic performance, a testament to her consistency, dedication and never-say-die attitude.
Modi also congratulated boxer Narender Berwal, who signed off with the bronze medal. He praised Praveen Chitharavel for the bronze medal in men's triple jump at the Asian Games.
With two gold, two silver and two bronze, India's medal tally from athletics rose to 22 (4 gold, 10 silver, 8 bronze), surpassing the 20 medals that the country had won in the 2018 edition. This has already become the highest number of medals in athletics after the 34 won in the inaugural edition in 1951.
