New Zealand's Ellesse Andrews clinched her second gold medal at the Paris Olympics, winning against Germany's Lea Friedrich in the women's sprint finals held at the Vélodrome National de Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines. This victory marks Andrews' third Olympic medal overall.
Riding with remarkable prowess, the 24-year-old Christchurch native outperformed Friedrich in a best-of-three finals, securing the opening race from the front and overtaking her German competitor on the outside to seize the gold.
Besides her recent sprint gold, Andrews also triumphed in the keirin and claimed silver in the team sprint with teammates Rebecca Petch and Shaane Fulton. The event also saw Britain's Emma Finucane win bronze, adding to her previous medal in the keirin.
