Football Australia has officially appointed Tony Popovic, a former Asian Champions League winning manager, as the new head coach of the Australian men's football team, the Socceroos. Popovic will hold the position until the end of the 2026 World Cup, following the resignation of Graham Arnold.
"I am extremely honoured to be given this opportunity," Popovic stated on Monday. Widely respected for his successful tenure with the Western Sydney Wanderers, Popovic also managed Perth Glory and Melbourne Victory in the A-League.
Popovic's appointment comes just in time for crucial World Cup qualifiers against China and Japan. FA chief executive James Johnson emphasized the swift decision to maintain the momentum and success of the Socceroos program.
