As the India Under-19 cricket team gears up for the ICC Under-19 Men's Cricket World Cup 2026 in Zimbabwe and Namibia, former U19 cricketers Shubman Gill, Arshdeep Singh, and Dhruv Jurel have extended their well-wishes for the squad. The young team, captained by Ayush Mhatre, aims to secure its sixth World Cup title, beginning its campaign against the USA in Bulawayo.
Indian ODI and Test Captain Shubman Gill expressed his excitement about the tournament and encouraged the players. "Wishing the Under-19 cricket team all the very best. I am very excited to watch you all perform in the ICC Under-19 Men's Cricket World Cup Zimbabwe & Namibia 2026. Have fun," Gill said, engaging with fans on JioHotstar.
Arshdeep Singh, another ex-U19 player, emphasized the importance of the tournament and urged the young cricketers to make the most of the experience. "Hopefully, in the future, we will share the dressing room. It's an excellent base for you all. No pressure, just bring the cup home," Singh added. Meanwhile, Dhruv Jurel reminisced about his experience in the 2020 edition, offering advice and inspiration.
Prior to the tournament, India U19 boasts a successful track record, with series wins against Australia, England, and South Africa. Nevertheless, challenges remain, as seen in past defeats in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Under-19 Asia Cups, including losses to Pakistan and Bangladesh. Leading the batting line-up is Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a standout performer with a formidable strike rate and high average.
India's previous World Cup loss to Australia in 2024 serves as motivation for the team. As they seek revenge, Australia's team, led by Oliver Peake, will also aim for glory, hoping to equal India's record with a fifth title win.
