Germany Flies in Expert Groundskeeper for World Cup Training
Germany has brought in groundskeeper Sebastian Breuning to manage the World Cup training grounds at North Carolina's Wake Forest University due to high temperatures. Breuning works with local staff amid the mandate for hydration breaks by FIFA. Germany faces Curacao in their opening match.
Germany has taken proactive measures by flying in Sebastian Breuning, a veteran groundskeeper, to oversee their World Cup training ground in North Carolina amidst sweltering temperatures, according to German newspaper Bild.
Breuning, who has coordinated groundskeeping for the German soccer association since 2022, was seen working closely with local staff to ensure the pitch remains well-maintained following a rigorous training session under the hot and humid conditions. This comes as FIFA introduces mandatory hydration breaks during matches.
"The conditions are commendable despite the heat," said Germany's national team director Rudi Voeller, acknowledging the extensive efforts made by local staff. Germany starts their World Cup journey with a Group E match against Curacao on Sunday.
