From Setback to Spotlight: Artan's UEFA Super Cup Redemption

Somali referee, Omar Abdulkadir Artan, was denied entry into the United States and missed out on officiating the World Cup. However, he has now been selected to officiate the upcoming UEFA Super Cup match between Paris St Germain and Aston Villa.

Artan, who is 34 years old, was originally scheduled to be among the match officials for the World Cup taking place from June 11 to July 19. His absence was due to U.S. authorities denying him entry, despite holding a valid visa. In a turn of events, European soccer's governing body announced his appointment for the UEFA Super Cup, following consultations with the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The anticipated match on August 12 in Salzburg will see Champions League winners Paris St Germain face off against Europa League holders Aston Villa. Artan's involvement highlights a renewed cooperation between European and African soccer organizations.
