Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards said on Tuesday they had launched missile attacks against the "perpetrators of terrorist operations in the Islamic Republic. Particularly the Islamic State" in Syria, state media reported.

"The Guards identified and destroyed gathering places of their commanders and key elements with a series of ballistic in response to the recent terrorist atrocities in Iran," the Guards' statement said.

Earlier this month, Islamic State claimed responsibility for two explosions in Iran's southeastern Kerman city that killed nearly 100 people and wounded scores at a memorial for top commander Qassem Soleimani. (Writing by Parisa Hafezi)
