In a call for increased collaboration, South African High Commissioner designate to India, Prof Anil Sooklal, urged Indian and South African businesses to abandon silo operations and enhance cooperation. Addressing a gathering at an event hosted by the Indian Consulate, Sooklal highlighted the potential for maximizing trade opportunities between the two nations through mutual effort.
Sooklal, the first Indian-origin South African to hold the position, discussed the historical ties and ongoing contributions of Indian companies in South Africa. He pointed out the significant job creation and skills transfer initiatives driven by Indian corporations like Vedanta and Tata, which employ predominantly local workforce and invest heavily in social causes.
High Commissioner Kumar echoed Sooklal's sentiments, noting the lack of awareness about each other's markets. Both diplomats emphasized the need for a unified approach to leverage the growing Indian market, which is poised for substantial economic growth.
