State-Owned Telecom Giants Cash In: BSNL and MTNL's Asset Monetisation Success
State-owned telecom firms BSNL and MTNL have generated over Rs 12,984 crore through asset monetisation since 2019. The financial gains came from the sale of land, buildings, towers, and fibre. In a significant development, state-owned telecom giants BSNL and MTNL have together amassed a formidable Rs 12,984.86 crore through asset monetisation since 2019. This was disclosed to Parliament, highlighting the financial strides made by these public sector units.
According to data presented by Minister of State for Communications Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar in the Lok Sabha, BSNL and MTNL have successfully leveraged their non-essential lands and buildings, earning Rs 2,387.82 crore and Rs 2,134.61 crore respectively by January 2025.
Further illustrating their strategic financial manoeuvres, BSNL and MTNL were reported to have earned Rs 8,204.18 crore and Rs 258.25 crore respectively, from the monetisation of towers and fibre. This initiative aligns with government policies and is under close monitoring to assess impacts on the public sector undertakings.
