Karnataka Pushes for Airport Expansions and Stakeholder Recognition

Karnataka's Infrastructure Minister M B Patil met with Union Civil Aviation Minister to press for the expansion of airports and stakeholder status in monetisation programs. He emphasized the need for an additional international airport in Bengaluru and upgrades for Hubballi and Belagavi airports to boost regional growth.

Karnataka's Minister for Infrastructure Development, M B Patil, recently met with Union Civil Aviation Minister K Ramamohan Naidu in New Delhi to advocate for airport development and stakeholder recognition from the state. Key agenda items included securing approvals for Bengaluru's second international airport and the inauguration of the Vijayapura airport.

Patil emphasized the significance of upgrading Hubballi and Belagavi airports to international status, citing their potential to enhance connectivity for North Karnataka, South Maharashtra, and Goa. These airports are technically ready with facilities for night landings and handling large aircraft, yet lack international status.

Additionally, Patil voiced concerns over Karnataka's exclusion from the airport asset monetisation framework, despite the state's substantial financial investments and contributions to infrastructure. Recognising Karnataka as a stakeholder, he argued, would ensure equitable participation and sustainable airport development.
