In a bold move to combat smuggling, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) launched its annual anti-smuggling auto rally in the capital. The event, attended by key leaders, underscored the message that purchasing smuggled goods inadvertently supports forces that are detrimental to India's security and stability.
The rally, organized by FICCI's Committee Against Smuggling and Counterfeiting Activities Destroying the Economy (CASCADE), saw an impressive turnout with over 300 auto-rickshaws departing from FICCI House. The initiative aims to educate the public on the severe consequences of smuggled and counterfeit goods on both consumers and legitimate businesses.
Highlighting the economic ramifications, a recent report estimated that India's illicit market is valued at Rs 7.97 lakh crore, with textiles and apparel being the hardest hit. FICCI-CASCADE Chairman Anil Rajput called for stricter enforcement and increased consumer awareness to mitigate these threats, emphasizing the need for lawful trade practices to ensure economic vitality and social well-being.
