Beijing Pressures Netherlands Over Nexperia Standoff
The Chinese government is urging the Netherlands to facilitate Nexperia's delegation to China amid tensions over control between the Dutch chipmaker and its Chinese parent company. Disruptions in the global automotive supply chain loom as both sides struggle to find a long-term resolution.
In a significant development, Beijing has called upon the Dutch government to expedite the deployment of a Nexperia delegation to China. The request follows rising tensions between the Netherlands-based chipmaker and its Chinese parent, Wingtech, which threaten to once again destabilize the global automotive supply chain.
The conflict intensified after the Dutch government assumed control of Nexperia in September, prompting Beijing to halt the export of the company's finished products and causing a shortage of chips for automakers worldwide. Although recent governmental relaxations have eased tensions, both sides remain embroiled in legal and operational disputes over control of the company.
A Chinese commerce ministry spokesperson emphasized the need for cooperation and has urged the Netherlands to facilitate negotiations. Meanwhile, Wingtech has invited Nexperia's court-appointed custodians for discussions, but Nexperia has yet to see any sincere effort towards restoring the supply chain.
