Bangladesh Universities Close Amid Violent Protests Over Government Jobs
Bangladeshi authorities have urged universities to close following violent protests that resulted in six deaths over government job allocations. While some universities complied immediately, others, including Dhaka University, are still deliberating. The University Grants Commission's request, however, lacks legal force as universities operate autonomously.

Authorities in Bangladesh have urged all universities to shut down on Wednesday following violent protests that resulted in the deaths of at least six people. The unrest centers on the allocation of government jobs.
Some universities quickly complied with the request, but others, including Dhaka University, which is at the epicenter of the protests, are still deciding on their course of action.
It's important to note that the universities in Bangladesh operate autonomously, and the request from the University Grants Commission does not carry legal weight.
