In response to severe weather conditions, the Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to extend the winter vacations for schools in the Valley and winter zone areas of the Jammu division. The decision was announced by Minister Sakina Itoo and shared via an official order by the school education department.
The vacations, originally scheduled to end on February 28, will now extend until March 6, with classes resuming on March 7. This extension follows forecasts predicting more wet weather through March 3, as well as recent disruptions caused by overnight snowfall impacting transportation infrastructure.
Major tourist destinations in the higher reaches, including Gulmarg, Sonamarg, and Pahalgam, experienced heavy snowfall, while light snowfall was reported in Srinagar. These conditions have temporarily affected essential connectivity along the Srinagar-Jammu highway and elsewhere.
