Delhi Postpones School Management Committee Elections Amid Low Participation

The Delhi Directorate of Education has delayed the elections for School Management Committees in government schools due to low nomination submissions and the onset of summer vacations. The decision aims to encourage better participation and a new schedule will be set post-vacation.

The Delhi Directorate of Education has announced the postponement of elections for the reconstitution of School Management Committees (SMCs) in the city's government schools. Originally scheduled for May 9, the elections faced delay due to multiple requests from stakeholders seeking more time for nomination submissions.

The Directorate highlighted a notably low number of applications from social workers, parents, and guardians of students. The imminent start of the summer vacation on May 10 was also a significant factor, as it coincides with the period when many families plan travels, potentially affecting election participation.

To promote an inclusive and participatory election process, the department has decided to defer the elections. A new schedule will be introduced after schools resume following the summer break. Applicants who have already submitted their nominations will not be required to reapply.
