A panel member from the Kerala State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) is facing repercussions for introducing a historical error in the draft of a teachers' handbook, the state's Education Minister, V Sivankutty, announced on Monday.
In a social media post, Sivankutty revealed that the revision in question misrepresented a significant historical figure, Subhas Chandra Bose, inaccurately stating that he had fled to Germany fearing the British. This misstep evidently led to considerable attention and resulted in a decision to ban the responsible panelist from future academic involvement.
The SCERT has since been directed to amend the handbook, ensuring accurate historical representation, and the corrected version is now accessible on their official website. The minister emphasized the state's commitment to presenting factual history without political bias, contrasting their approach with that of the central government.
