In a significant legislative move, the Uttarakhand Assembly approved the Minority Education Bill, 2025. This law extends minority status benefits beyond the Muslim community to include institutions run by Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, Christian, and Parsi communities.
The bill's enactment will nullify the Uttarakhand Madrasa Education Board Act, 2016, and the Uttarakhand Non-Government Arabic and Persian Madrasa Recognition Rules, 2019, by July 1, 2026, according to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
By establishing a regulatory authority, the bill aims to enhance educational transparency and quality across minority institutions, aligning with the standards set by the Uttarakhand Board of School Education.
