The Ministry of Education is set to pressure West Bengal and Tamil Nadu into signing a Memorandum of Understanding for the implementation of the PM SHRI scheme. This development follows significant political shifts in both states that have renewed hopes for rolling out educational reforms.
Recently, both states had resisted joining the scheme due to political tensions and concerns over education funding terms. However, the Ministry expresses optimism that these challenges can be overcome, with letters urging early adoption being dispatched to state chief secretaries.
The PM SHRI scheme looks to transform over 14,500 schools nationwide into model institutions aligned with the National Education Policy 2020. Meanwhile, the Ministry also plans to unveil a school-level mental health policy soon, aiming to strengthen support systems for student wellbeing.
