In a powerful display of solidarity, thousands of people participated in a mega rally in Kolkata, demanding justice for a doctor allegedly raped and murdered at a hospital last month. The night-long sit-in, which involved prominent film personalities and rights activists, continued until 4 am on Monday.
The rally, which commenced from College Square in northern Kolkata, culminated in the Esplanade area, where the protesters vowed to remain until their demands for a swift probe and arrest of the culprits were addressed. Despite a 4 am deadline set for government response, no representative arrived.
Noteworthy participants like actors Sohini Sarkar, Swastika Mukherjee, and Debalina Mukherjee expressed their determination to intensify the movement if their demands went unheeded. The incident involving the postgraduate trainee doctor, whose body was recovered from the RG Kar Medical College, has sparked nationwide outrage and is currently under CBI investigation.
