The Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) announced the creation of a seven-member panel on Wednesday aimed at combating drug abuse on movie sets. The initiative follows mounting concerns over the rising instances of substance abuse within the state's film industry.
FEFKA's general secretary, B. Unnikrishnan, highlighted that the newly-formed vigilant committee will include individuals from diverse roles in movie production, such as directors, production controllers, and technicians. Unnikrishnan emphasized that any drug-related violations on set would lead to immediate involvement of law enforcement.
Unnikrishnan stated that this effort is part of a self-regulation drive, focusing more on internal management than external restrictions. He underscored the collective responsibility of film professionals to eradicate drug use, noting that discussions with the state's Excise Minister and law enforcement preceded this decision.
