In an effort to accelerate silk production and expand rural industries, the Odisha government has unveiled two groundbreaking initiatives: the Chief Minister Silk Development Scheme and the Chief Minister Weaving Industry Development Scheme. The announcement was made by a state minister in the Assembly on Saturday.
Officially sanctioned during a state Cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, the schemes were part of a package of six approved proposals. These initiatives aim to inject Rs 274 crore over five years into the sericulture industry and Rs 490 crore into the weaving industry, focusing on infrastructure enhancement, ethics, skill-building, and job creation.
Additionally, strategic plans align these schemes with state policies to promote Odisha as a textile manufacturing hub. The Cabinet also restructured the Odisha Fisheries Service Cadre and greenlit the Odisha Pharma and Medical Device Policy 2025, facilitating the establishment of specialized parks for pharma and med devices.
