The historic Verona Arena, a pivotal venue for the 2026 Milan Cortina Games, is set to receive a significant makeover aimed at enhancing accessibility and safety. This renovation comes in preparation for its role as the host of the Olympic closing ceremony and Paralympic opening ceremony, marking a remarkable blend of tradition and modernity.
The project, costing approximately 18 million euros, will include substantial improvements to accessibility features, such as the installation of wheelchair-accessible ramps and modern safety handrails. Notably, the design integrates pre-rusted steel and historically significant stone, carefully balancing preservation with progression.
Architect Giulio Fenyves, whose studio is orchestrating these updates, emphasizes the importance of cohesively integrating new elements while respecting the monument's age and history. The project extends to the nearby infrastructure and landscape, enhancing overall accessibility beyond the Arena itself, leaving a lasting legacy for the city.
