Salman Khan Battles for Rights in 'Kala Hiran' Film Dispute
Bollywood actor Salman Khan seeks court intervention against the film 'Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy' for allegedly exploiting his persona without permission. The actor argues the film could tarnish his reputation, influence ongoing legal cases, and violate his rights, leading him to request a production halt.
Bollywood heavyweight Salman Khan has moved the Delhi High Court, seeking temporary relief against the creators of the upcoming film 'Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy'. Khan alleges that the film infringes upon his personality rights, potentially harming his reputation and impacting ongoing legal proceedings related to the infamous 1998 blackbuck hunting case.
An interim injunction application was lodged under Order XXXIX Rules 1 and 2 in an ongoing commercial suit, asking the court to prevent producer Amit Jani, Jani FireFox Films, director Bharat Shrinate, Akshay Pandey, and their associates from proceeding with the film's production, promotion, or distribution until the legal matter is resolved.
Khan's plea argues that the film's material, albeit not directly naming him, utilizes imagery and themes closely linked to the blackbuck case, making his identification inevitable. The actor fears that such portrayal, especially with a character resembling him wearing his signature blue bracelet and holding a firearm, creates a misleading narrative, contradicting his acquittal under the Arms Act, 1959.
The petition further highlights past media reports and statements by producer Amit Jani, suggesting the film's inspiration from the blackbuck case and an associated gangland dispute. Statements and social media posts have fueled public speculation and drawn undue publicity by allegedly connecting the film to Khan, despite a cease and desist notice issued by the actor in April 2026.
Khan accuses Jani of exacerbating the situation through potentially defamatory online posts received post-notice, which are believed to harm his reputation and goodwill. The actor argues that this scenario violates his personality rights as acknowledged by the Delhi High Court in a prior ruling.
Consequently, Khan has urged the court to curb the defendants from releasing any promotional material regarding the film and has sought the suspension of its production pending a final judgment. Despite the accusations, producers have defended the film as a work of creative fiction, opposing its suppression. (ANI)
