In a bid to address urgent national issues, Congress leaders Gaurav Gogoi and Manish Tewari have moved adjournment motion notices in Lok Sabha. Gogoi emphasized the need to prioritize the census, citing the critical role of updated data in policymaking and resource allocation. He criticized the government for relying on outdated 2011 census data, which hampers effective decision-making.
Gogoi pointed out that India is one of the few countries yet to schedule its delayed census, stressing the importance of updated demographic and socio-economic data. He noted that the current budget allocation for census surveys is insufficient, indicating that the process will not commence this year. Gogoi demanded a clear timeline and immediate action from the government.
Meanwhile, Manish Tewari focused on the ongoing border clashes and trade deficit with China, urging the government to disclose efforts to resolve these issues. He highlighted India's significant trade deficit with China, which exceeded USD 85 billion in 2023-24. Tewari called for a detailed discussion on both border security and economic relations with China.
