Protests over the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata entered their third day on Wednesday, disrupting healthcare services across the country. The Congress and BJP have criticized the West Bengal government for its alleged failure to protect women.
Resident doctors at government hospitals in states including West Bengal and Delhi continued their strike, despite the Federation of Resident Doctors' Association (FORDA) calling off its protest after meeting Union Health Minister J P Nadda. However, other medical associations maintain their strike, demanding a central law to curb attacks against medical personnel.
The political conflict has intensified, with Rahul Gandhi and BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia accusing West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of mishandling the incident. A CBI team has begun investigating the case following a directive from the Calcutta High Court.
